A story is not a quote, and treating it like one is why most story videos fail. A story needs a setup, a turn and an ending, and each of those needs its own card — dumping the whole thing onto one screen produces a wall of text nobody finishes.

One beat per card is the rule that makes this format work. Three to five cards, each holding one sentence or two, and the last card carrying the line the story exists for. The transitions do the pacing that paragraph breaks would do on a page.

Set the per-card time longer than a quote video — story cards carry more words, and the viewer is following a thread rather than reading a standalone line.

Tips that actually help

Frequently asked questions

How many cards should a story use? +

Three to five. Fewer and it is a quote; more and short-form retention drops off before the ending.

How long should each card be on screen? +

Longer than a quote — five to seven seconds — because story cards carry more words and the viewer is tracking a thread across them.

Can I number the parts? +

Yes. The label above each card is free text, so “Part 1”, “Part 2” or nothing at all are all one field away.
